Empowering educators to lead digital technologies
Mandurah primary school teachers are championing digital technologies in the classroom.
Scitech's permanent central gallery will be transformed with 18 new exhibits.
Scitech has received a Lotterywest grant of $571,000 to support the design and delivery of 18 new exhibits offering engaging and hands-on learning experiences in science and technology.
The new exhibits will be designed and fabricated in Western Australia and transform the permanent central gallery in the Scitech Discovery Centre.
Titled Here, There and Everywhere, the new gallery will feature three zones allowing visitors to explore how science and technology solves challenges in the body, the home, the Western Australian community and the world at large.
Minister for Science the Hon Stephen Dawson MLC presented the Lotterywest grant to Scitech at the Discovery Centre on Friday 13 December 2024, taking a tour of the workshop where the exhibits are under construction, and testing out the new DNA Builder exhibit.
Scitech General Manager of Exhibitions and Operations William Peng thanked major supporter Lotterywest for the significant grant to help make the gallery transformation a reality.
“As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on funding from government, corporate partners and donors to be able to deliver interactive learning experiences that boost STEM literacy and inspire future careers,” Mr Peng said.
“All of the design work for the new exhibits is happening here at Scitech – from developing the science communications, computer modelling, graphics, gamification software and electronics, to the final fabrication and installation – it really is STEM in action.
“We are also testing the exhibit designs through our Test Pilots children’s reference group, which ensures our exhibits are optimised for engagement, fun and learning.
“Whether it’s through discovering how a cochlear implant works, learning how light pollution affects turtles, or uncovering the science behind a hydrogen rocket, we hope the new gallery will inspire curiosity and lifelong learning in STEM.”
Lotterywest Chief Executive Officer Colin Smith said supporting science and technology-based opportunities for young Western Australians was the driver for this $571,000 grant.
“This is an opportunity for Lotterywest and Scitech to create a space that has the power to inspire young minds towards innovation,” Mr Smith said.
Here, There and Everywhere is currently under development and expected to open to visitors in September 2025.
