Scitech has welcomed the Labor Government’s election promise of a $100 million investment to support a major upgrade.
Scitech has welcomed the Labor Government’s election promise of a $100 million investment to support a major upgrade of the Scitech Discovery Centre, and help inspire the next generation of scientists.
Scitech Chief Executive Officer Dr John Chappell said the investment would set Scitech up for the future.
“Scitech has been inspiring West Australians to engage in science for 37 years,” said Dr Chappell.
“A major upgrade will allow Scitech to grow and expand our offering, so we can keep delivering fun and meaningful science experiences to WA families for the next 50 years.”
Western Australians working in science, engineering and technology contribute $87 billion to the WA economy annually, and one in three of these workers say that Scitech had a positive influence on their career choice.
“$100 million is a significant investment in the future of science in WA,” said Dr Chappell.
“We thank both the Federal and State Governments for their ongoing support and commitment to growing STEM education and careers.
“West Australians deserve a world-class science centre, and a major upgrade will support Scitech to inspire the next generation of innovators, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.
“We look forward to working closely with government partners to look at how Scitech can deliver inspiring science experiences in a world-class facility, that meets the needs of the WA community into the future.”
