Accessibility & Inclusion

At Scitech, we’re committed to ensuring that all people have access to our Discovery Centre facilities, services and STEM learning experiences.

You have reached the main content region of the page.

We believe in delivering a bright STEM-enabled future to all Western Australians. Scitech offers free carer admission, wheelchair access lifts, and multi-sensory experiences, and we’re committed to enabling Science Centre-wide disability access to our facilities and services.

Our minds are always open to feedback and suggestions; we encourage you to get in contact with us.

Are you looking to experience a quieter, less crowded Scitech? The afternoons are usually quieter during non-school holiday and Toddlerfest periods.

Arriving at the Discovery Centre

  • Public transport facilities (City West train station and Green CAT bus) are close by
  • Designated accessible parking (ACROD) within the City West Centre managed car park close to lift and escalator access
  • A set down area, by the roundabout, is available for buses, taxis and private vehicles
  • Lift access from car park to the first floor Admissions desk and entry to the Discovery Centre
  • Escalator and lift access from car park to the ground floor of City West Centre
  • Carers are entitled to free admission (upon presentation of a valid Companion Card)
  • Part lowered reception counter to allow comfortable communication with staff.

Inside the Discovery Centre

  • Clearly identified edges to stairs
  • The Science Centre floor allows for a continuous accessible path of travel
  • Exhibit design aims to provide for adequate forward reach and clearance underneath tables, benches and basins
  • Exhibitions are built to engage a variety of senses and do not rely solely on a single sense like sight. Exhibits often feature tactile and a variety of sensory elements
  • Fire and evacuation procedures are in place, including clear signage, a fire tunnel and an audio alarm
  • Accessible bathroom available, with clear directional signage throughout the Discovery Centre
  • Chevron Science Theatre,  Scitech Planetarium and Puppet Theatre are all wheelchair accessible
  • Many exhibits are operated by large palm push buttons
  • Service companion animals are welcome
  • Suggested quieter periods are generally the last 2 hours of the day, but cannot be guaranteed
  • Show times are visible on display monitors and are announced over the public announcement system.
