Scitech holds a special place in the hearts of so many Western Australians. If our Discovery Centre or outreach programs have touched your life, we invite you to consider leaving a gift in your Will. We value every gift, no matter the size, and would be honoured to be a part of your legacy.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you can ensure that future generations get to experience the wonder of Scitech. Your generosity will enable us to continue our important work engaging Western Australians in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The world is changing at an unprecedented pace, and your support will enable us to keep up with these changes, so that our children do too. Together, we can ensure they are career-ready and equipped to take on the challenges of tomorrow.

Writing a Will is deeply personal. We encourage you to talk to your loved ones about your wishes and why you want to support Scitech.

After this, you can follow these simple steps to leave a gift in your Will to the Scitech Discovery Centre (That is Scitech’s legal name, be sure to use it in your wording).

Simple steps

Types of gifts you can leave in your Will include:

Residual Gifts. After you have taken care of your loved ones, you may choose to leave the remainder of your estate, or a share of the remainder.
Percentage of Your Estate. You may choose to leave the whole of your estate or a percentage of your estate to Scitech Discovery Centre. A gift as little as 1% can make a huge difference.
Specific Gifts. You may decide to gift a specific sum of money, property, stocks or shares. There is also the option to gift insurance or superannuation, however these do not form part of your estate and as such we recommend speaking with your solicitor to ensure the correct processes are followed.

We recommend seeking advice from a solicitor or legal professional to ensure that the wording of your Will reflects your exact wishes. Below is some suggested wording that you may choose to include in your Will.

Please note that the wording must specify our full legal name, Scitech Discovery Centre (not just Scitech).

“I [insert full legal name] give and bequeath [insert either: the residue (or % of the residue) of my estate, a % of my estate, a sum of $_____, or a specific gift] to Scitech Discovery Centre of 1 Campbell St West Perth WA 6005 (ABN 55 009 292 700) for its general purposes, free of all taxes and estate duties. I declare that the receipt of the Secretary, Treasurer or other Proper Officer of the nominated beneficiary will be a full discharge for my trustee who will not be bound to see its application.”

For your convenience, you can print the above suggested wording off to take to your solicitor.

We recommend that you work with a solicitor or legal professional to write your Will. If you have a simple Will, you can use an online service like Gathered Here which makes writing a Will easy. The Will is considered legally valid and binding provided you meet the usual requirements for creating a Will (namely, you have testamentary capacity and are of sound mind, are over the age of 18, you make the Will voluntarily and follow the required signing and witnessing formalities).

Unrestricted gifts are preferred as they will allow our team to direct funds to where they are needed most. However, we understand that you might be very passionate about a particular area of our work.

If you wish to specify where your gift will go, we encourage you to select one of these four core areas.

Please contact our Philanthropy Manager Erica Blaney via email or 08 9215 0846 to discuss your wishes before making a gift that is restricted to a specific use. After this conversation, she will be able to send through some suggested wording for you to take to your solicitor.

If you would like to leave a gift to the Scitech Discovery Centre but have already written your Will, there are two options:

You may be able to include a codicil (an extra clause which is added to your existing Will). This will need to be witnessed by two people when you sign and date it.
If your change is more complex however you may need to create a new Will.
